Abdul Karim (Fonti) Kabia graduated with Distinction in Journalism and News Writing from the London School of Journalism (LSJ) in June 2010. Prior to that, he had obtained a Diploma in Computer Science from the Institute of Advanced Management and Technology (IAMTECH).
Born on the 15th June 1985, Fonti’s name is in the annals of the Sierra Leone media landscape as the youngest newspaper editor ever in Sierra Leone. To date, he enviably remains the country’s youngest newspaper editor to the admiration of all and sundry. Abdul Fonti became Editor of the Awareness Times Newspaper at the age of 22 in November 2007.
He ably and professionally edited that newspaper until Wednesday 31st August 2011, when he tendered his resignation from the country’s most widely read newspaper to establish the independent Sierra Leone News Hunters (Ariogbo) Newspaper. At the Awareness Times Newspaper, Fonti, on several instances acted as the newspaper’s Chief Executive Officer/Publisher.
The young LSJ graduate has won himself a couple of professional awards including the National Media Award he received in 2010 as the country’s Best Newspaper Columnist. In all his six years of practice (2005 – 2011), Fonti has remained an independent investigative journalist with an unblemished professional track record. To his credit, he has never been found wanton for a single professional misconduct. Fonti is happily engaged to his gorgeous Patricia Christiane Koroma. He is also blessed with a beautiful daughter called Rugiatu Patricia Sylvia Kabia.
